Four Dead and Multiple Vehicles in Multi-Car Crash in Modesto

Modesto, California – A multi-car crash in Modesto resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including two Merced residents.

The incident occurred around 4 pm on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, on the busy McHenry Avenue, located north of Hogue Street. According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, a 19-year-old resident of Merced was driving a Mitsubishi northbound on McHenry when, for reasons still unknown, the vehicle veered into oncoming traffic.

A head-on collision was inevitable as the Mitsubishi collided with a Toyota. Additionally, the vehicle also struck two other cars in the area. As a result of this tragic event, both the Mitsubishi driver and her 22-year-old passenger lost their lives at the scene of the accident.

Among the victims was a 60-year-old woman who was traveling in the Toyota along with a one-year-old child as a passenger. Both were rushed to nearby hospitals, unfortunately succumbing later due to the severe injuries sustained in the impact.

Amidst the shock, uncertainty arises about the possible causes of this fatal accident. At this time, it has not been determined whether the consumption of psychoactive substances or alcohol influenced the development of this tragic event.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of caution and responsibility behind the wheel. We urge all drivers to stay alert, respect traffic rules, and ensure their own safety and that of others on public roads.
