59-Year-Old Man Dies in Hit-and-Run Crash in San Jose

San Jose, California – Nicandro Quintanilla, aged 59, tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run collision at the intersection of Nieman Boulevard and Daniel Maloney Drive in the early hours of Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Police reported that the incident occurred shortly after 4 a.m., and a minor has been arrested in connection with the accident.

Residents in the area, like Darnell Archie, were shocked witnesses to the event. Archie, who resides close to the intersection, recounted hearing the crash’s loud noise and the cries of those involved in the accident, urging them to flee the scene.

Police swiftly responded to the accident scene, arriving at approximately 4:12 a.m. Reports indicate that the driver of a white Nissan Frontier truck was fatally struck by a black Chevy Camaro traveling at high speed.

Neighbors, deeply affected by the tragedy, described the aftermath of the accident, highlighting the visual impact of the involved vehicles. San Jose city officials have taken note of the risks at that intersection and plan to implement safety measures, including the construction of a roundabout in 2025, aimed at reducing the likelihood of future incidents.

This unfortunate hit-and-run crash marks the twelfth traffic-related death in San Jose so far this year, emphasizing the urgency of addressing road safety in the city. With dozens of road safety projects underway, authorities hope to mitigate the risk of accidents in the future.

The Quintanilla family, devastated by the loss of their loved one, has established a GoFundMe account to raise funds and facilitate funeral arrangements in Mexico.
