Los Angeles, California – On Saturday, April 20, 2024, in the evening, a tram carrying tourists through the backlot of Universal Studios Hollywood caused injuries to fifteen individuals when it struck a railing, throwing them from the vehicle.
The tram accident at Universal Studios occurred shortly after 9 p.m. during the popular studio tour and theme park ride. The tram, on its northbound route on Avenue M, was passing by the Jurassic Park exhibit.
During a maneuver, the last car of the tram struck a railing on the right side, tilting and causing several passengers to fall onto the roadway. The California Highway Patrol reported that 15 passengers sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
A spokesperson from Universal Studios provided a statement to local media, confirming multiple minor injuries and expressing their commitment to understanding the circumstances that led to the accident.
Officials at Universal Studios had recently implemented new attractions along the tour route and had planned to add more features to the popular Studio Tour until August 11th. These include an immersive photo experience, retro trams, and a replica of the famous Hollywood sign, as part of their 60th-anniversary celebration.
Despite the incident, the Studio Tour remains one of the theme park’s most popular attractions, taking visitors on a one-hour journey through some of the most iconic filming sets in Hollywood history.
