Los Angeles, California – A pedestrian lost his life and six others were injured in a traffic accident involving a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) vehicle.
The tragedy occurred at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Gower Street, just before 5 p.m., when a vehicle traveling westbound on Santa Monica Boulevard collided with a police vehicle at the pedestrian crossing.
The collision caused a chain reaction, leading the police vehicle to spin and strike a pedestrian who was trapped underneath. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the victim could not survive their injuries and passed away at the hospital.
Images from the accident scene show a white sedan crashed into the rear of the police vehicle, which had deployed its airbags as a safety measure. Paramedics attended to the victims on-site, transporting one person in critical condition to the hospital, where they unfortunately succumbed to their injuries.
Authorities are still investigating the causes of the accident and determining the liability of those involved. Witnesses reported that the police were honking to clear the intersection moments before the collision, but the exact cause of the incident has yet to be established.
