Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 99 Claims Life, Injures Two

Fresno, California — A wrong-way crash on Highway 99 claimed one life and left two others injured Sunday afternoon, underscoring the grave dangers posed by wrong-way driving on major California roadways. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision as traffic safety concerns remain high along this busy corridor.

Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 99 Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers began receiving emergency calls around 2:00 p.m. reporting a wrong-way vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 99 near Olive Avenue. Shortly afterward, additional calls reported a collision just south of Clinton Avenue.

Investigators determined that a 58-year-old man driving a Ford Ranger in the far-left lane struck two vehicles head-on—a Ford Bronco driven by a 24-year-old woman and a Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 63-year-old woman. The collision blocked two left lanes of the highway.

The wrong-way driver was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he later died. The other two drivers were hospitalized with injuries and are expected to survive.

What a Wrong-Way Crash Means for Injury Claims

A wrong-way auto vehicle crash on Highway 99 often leads to complex personal injury claims, particularly when serious injuries or fatalities occur. Even while investigations are ongoing, injured parties may have legal options available under California law.

Essential factors to consider include:

  • Determining liability based on traffic violations and roadway evidence
  • Evaluating medical expenses, future treatment, and rehabilitation needs
  • Assessing lost income and reduced earning capacity
  • Considering non-economic damages such as pain, trauma, and emotional distress

When alcohol, drugs, or roadway design factors are suspected, claims may involve multiple parties and insurance carriers.
