Tragic San Francisco Accident: Ongoing Investigation [San Francisco, CA]

San Francisco, California – San Francisco police are currently investigating a tragic traffic accident that occurred on Thursday, involving multiple scenes in the city’s SoMa neighborhood.

Early signs of trouble emerged in the morning at several key intersections, including Potrero Avenue and Alameda Street, Potrero Avenue and 15th Street, as well as Division and Harrison streets.

A bloodied object was found on the road on Alameda Street behind one of the police barricades around 10:30 a.m.

The San Francisco police response was swift and effective. Officers arrived at the scene at 7:36 a.m. in response to an incident involving a traffic collision. Sadly, the police later confirmed that this tragic collision resulted in a fatality.

On Thursday afternoon, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) commented on the possibility of a connection between this incident and another report of a fatal collision involving multiple vehicles in South San Francisco.

In the second incident, a person called 911 to report a pedestrian had been struck near the Grand Avenue exit of U.S. 101-South, according to the spokesperson. However, when first responders arrived minutes later, CHP investigators reported that although there was evidence of a fatal crash, no body was found at the scene.

CHP Officer Mark Andrews stated, “We believe multiple vehicles struck the pedestrian at that location,” adding that the right lanes and exit lanes of the Grand Avenue road were closed for investigation until they reopened at 11:25 a.m. “None of those vehicles remained at the scene.”

Andrews explained that investigators were awaiting tests by the coroner’s office to determine if the recovered body was related to the collision in South San Francisco.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage between 6:15 and 6:30 a.m. in the area is urged to contact the San Francisco CHP office at 415-557-1094.

A San Francisco Chief Medical Examiner’s Office van appeared to be collecting human remains before leaving the scene at 10:48 a.m. The office responsible for death investigations in the city did not respond to a request for comment.

The northbound section of Potrero Avenue at 15th Street remained closed as of 10:30 a.m., while westbound lanes of Division Street at the corner of Harrison Street were closed around 8 a.m. on Thursday morning.

California Highway Patrol investigators arrived at the scene at Division and Harrison streets around 11 a.m.
