Oakland, California – A tragic Oakland DUI accident on Sunday claimed the life of Criscel Dela Rosa, a Filipino American woman after a suspected drunk driver crashed into her vehicle on I-880 near the Embarcadero exit. The crash involved a Freightliner box truck that rear-ended Dela Rosa’s Tesla Model Y, leading to fatal injuries.
Criscel’s husband, Michael Dela Rosa, shared the heartbreaking news on a GoFundMe page, recalling the devastating phone call he received early that morning. He described his frantic attempts to reach her and his shock upon arriving at the crash site, where he found the wreckage of his wife’s car. “It hurt me to see how devastating the car crash was, and I can only imagine the pain she went through,” Michael wrote.
Criscel had taken on extra work that Sunday, a day she usually had off, and the crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. as she headed to her job. The suspected drunk driver responsible for the collision was arrested at the scene.
In a moving tribute, Michael described his wife as a kind-hearted, church-going woman and a loving wife and mother. Their family, including their 7-year-old daughter, is devastated by the loss.
In the wake of this tragedy, Michael is raising funds to cover funeral expenses and to bring Criscel’s siblings from the Philippines to the U.S. to attend the service. As of the latest update, the GoFundMe campaign has raised nearly $45,000, surpassing its initial goal of $25,000. “This demonstrates how much she was loved,” Michael expressed in gratitude for the outpouring of support.
Our thoughts are with Criscel Dela Rosa’s family during this unimaginably difficult time. This tragic drunk driving accident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the devastating impact it can have on innocent lives.
Let us all be mindful on the road and remember that one careless choice can forever alter the lives of many.
