Fatal Accident: Sheriff’s Deputy Strikes Pedestrian in Moreno Valley

(Riverside County, CA) Authorities in Riverside County reported a fatal accident in which a Sheriff’s deputy struck a pedestrian in Moreno Valley

The fatal accident occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Cactus Avenue, just west of Heacock Street. Investigations indicate that the Sheriff’s deputy was responding to an emergency call in the area with lights and sirens activated at the time of the accident.

For unknown reasons, the woman walked into the street from the median and tragically was struck by the patrol vehicle. It is unclear from which direction the victim was walking.

The California Highway Patrol’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is currently investigating the incident. It is alleged that the deputy had the emergency lights activated throughout the entire duration of the trip leading up to the accident.

However, a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department indicates that the deputy was not driving in emergency mode at the time of impact.

Both agencies agree that the deputy provided immediate assistance to the victim after the collision. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim. The victim has not been identified, and the Sheriff’s deputy does not have any reported injuries.

Authorities are hoping to find any surveillance cameras in the area that might aid in the investigation. If you have any relevant information about this accident, please do not hesitate to contact law enforcement.

Fatal accidents are more common than we think, and it is staggering to see how in the blink of an eye, countless lives can be lost. It is our responsibility as both drivers and pedestrians to remain vigilant and exercise caution at all times to prevent accidents.
