CALIFORNIA – Upper Lake Clementine, a popular recreational destination located about an hour north of Sacramento, was temporarily closed over a weekend and has adopted a reservation-only system for weekends and holidays.
This measure was taken after authorities reported dangerous and chaotic conditions during the early summer months.
At Auburn State Recreation Area, Upper Lake Clementine experienced traffic and congestion that led to unsafe conditions on Foresthill Road, which leads to the lake. Illegal parking on the road, pedestrians crossing at blind curves, and drivers making illegal U-turns in traffic were some of the reported issues.
Authorities, including California State Parks, the California Highway Patrol, and Placer County officials, recently met to find solutions to improve safety in the recreational area.
Due to the continued unsafe traffic conditions on Foresthill Road, Upper Lake Clementine will implement a daily reservation system for Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
The temporary closure will allow authorities to install signs and other safety features before reopening to weekend visitors on July 27.
Visitors wishing to enjoy Upper Lake Clementine on weekends can make reservations up to 10 business days in advance.
To make a reservation, call 530-885-4527 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. On weekdays, access will remain on a first-come, first-served basis.
