Fatal Accident in Merced County: Truck Axle Detaches on Highway 99

Merced County, CA – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a tragic accident that occurred in Merced County. The collision took place around 10:40 a.m. on Thursday on Highway 99, near Franklin Road.

According to officials, a 58-year-old woman from Avenal was driving a 2017 Nissan Frontier southbound on Highway 99, with a five-year-old child in the rear seat of the vehicle.

During the journey, a large truck traveling northbound experienced a mishap, causing its axle to detach and leap over the safety barrier, colliding directly with the Nissan.

Sadly, as a result of the impact, the woman lost her life at the scene of the accident.

Fortunately, the five-year-old child in the rear seat of the vehicle did not suffer any injuries, but as a precaution, they were transported to the hospital. Authorities do not suspect that drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
