SUTTER COUNTY, California — A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday in Sutter County, claiming the lives of a man, a dog, and an unborn child. The incident took place around 8:30 a.m. on Highway 20, near the Wadsworth Canal Bridge in Sutter County.
According to a report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the tragic accident occurred when a 30-year-old man was driving a Nissan Versa eastbound, with a pregnant woman in the passenger seat and a dog in the rear of the vehicle.
At the same time, a woman was driving a Chevy Tahoe westbound, and a man with a trailer was traveling behind her in a Ford F-150.
According to the CHP report, the driver of the Nissan veered into the double yellow lines and crossed into the lane of the Tahoe, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles in the westbound lane. Subsequently, the Ford collided with the rear of the Tahoe.
The driver of the Nissan and the pregnant woman accompanying him became trapped inside the vehicle and required rescue. The pregnant passenger was transported to Adventist Health Rideout, but unfortunately, her unborn baby was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Nissan was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Hospital but did not survive due to the severe injuries sustained in the accident. The dog inside the vehicle also lost its life due to the injuries and was treated at Northpointe Animal Hospital.
The driver of the Chevy Tahoe suffered minor injuries, while the person in the Ford was unharmed.
Authorities reported that alcohol was not a factor in the multiple-vehicle accident in Sutter County. However, they are requesting anyone who witnessed this incident to contact CHP investigators at 530-645-6200.
