A driver lost control and caused a serious accident on the southbound Highway 110 in the South Los Angeles area on Thursday night. The tragic incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. near the Slauson Avenue exit.
According to Officer Roberto Gomez of the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a four-door Infiniti sedan “missed the Slauson exit.” After bypassing the exit, the Infiniti sharply veered out of control, crashing into a retaining wall and bursting into flames.
Firefighters quickly responded to the scene to extinguish the fire and, unfortunately, discovered four deceased individuals inside the vehicle.
While the identity of the driver is unknown, it is estimated that they were between 20 and 30 years old, as reported by Gomez. The ages of the other occupants have not been confirmed, but they are believed to be young. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the victims.
It is important to note that no other vehicles were involved in this tragic accident on Highway 110. Although some witnesses mentioned the possibility of the Infiniti being involved in street racing, this information has not been confirmed by investigators from the California Highway Patrol.
Gomez stated that speed appears to have been a contributing factor in this accident. He also mentioned that drivers often exceed speed limits during the early morning hours.
After completing the necessary rescue and cleanup operations, all lanes of the highway were reopened to traffic at 5:15 a.m., allowing for the normal flow of vehicles.
Remember, road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Driving responsibly and respecting traffic laws are essential for preserving lives and avoiding tragic accidents like this one.
