San Bernardino County, California – Two employees dedicated to cleaning debris along a road in Chino tragically lost their lives after being struck by a freight truck during the morning hours of Monday, May 6, 2024.
The fatal accident in Chino occurred around 8:30 a.m. on northbound Highway 71 near Euclid Avenue, according to reports from the California Highway Patrol.
According to investigations, a freight truck traveling in the center lane of the highway veered into the slower lane, striking the side of the cleaning crew’s van parked on the shoulder before colliding with an embankment.
Tragically, one of the workers, a 54-year-old man, lost his life at the scene of the accident. The other employee, a 36-year-old man, initially transported to the hospital due to severe injuries, also succumbed later. Both individuals were from San Bernardino.
The California Highway Patrol has stated that no indications of alcohol or drugs were detected as contributing factors to the accident. As of now, the names of the victims have not been disclosed.
