[Compton, LA] – A suspect in a stolen car dramatically evaded police for hours Tuesday night, smashing through fences, hitting a CHP cruiser, and driving on two shredded tires before finally being taken into custody in Compton.
The pursuit began around 9 p.m. when authorities received reports of a stolen car on the move. AIR7 HD captured footage of the driver as he slammed through two fences near Lemon and 8th streets in downtown L.A.
The driver then backed up and hit a CHP cruiser to continue fleeing on a residential street. The chase went through East L.A. and downtown, but the driver stayed mostly in the Willowbrook and Compton areas.
With the chase entering its second hour, residents began coming out onto the streets to witness what was unfolding.
Finally, after two hours of pursuit, CHP performed a final PIT maneuver and the driver spun to a halt. The officers then dragged the suspect out of his car and arrested him near North Alameda Street and East Rosecrans Avenue in Compton just before 11 p.m.
The suspect in the wild and dangerous car chase is currently in custody, awaiting further investigation into his actions. There are no reports of injuries so far.
