Oceanside, California – A devastating Oceanside car crash on State Route 78 resulted in one fatality and another individual sustaining severe injuries, according to California Highway Patrol reports.
The incident unfolded around 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2024, in the eastbound lanes near El Camino Real, where a small car collided with a parked excavator situated along the shoulder.
Both occupants of the vehicle were trapped inside following the impact, sustaining severe injuries, with one occupant tragically succumbing to their injuries.
Efforts by the Oceanside Fire Department led to the extraction of the trapped driver, who was swiftly airlifted to a nearby trauma center for urgent medical attention. The rescue of the passenger proved to be more challenging, taking approximately 30 minutes as responders utilized specialized equipment and advanced techniques for extraction.
Despite their efforts, the passenger experienced traumatic cardiac arrest while being transported to a nearby trauma center. As of Sunday evening, authorities reported the passenger’s critical, yet stable condition.
