Oro Grande, CA – A fatal accident on the road leaves one person dead and another woman injured, who was airlifted by helicopter. The unfortunate incident occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, under the railroad bridge, near the entrance to Cal Portland.
According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, a large front loader carrying a backhoe detached from a truck and fell onto a car. The affected vehicle continued its course until crashing into a tree near an apartment complex.
The Victorville Fire Department quickly responded to the scene, and due to the severity of the injuries, they requested the intervention of a helicopter to airlift a critically injured female with arm and back injuries. She was first taken by ambulance to Victor Valley Global Medical Center and then transferred by helicopter to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Unfortunately, the man traveling in the accident-involved vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Representatives from BNSF arrived at the location to inspect the integrity of the bridge and ensure it was safe for train passage. Meanwhile, the California Highway Patrol assisted in traffic control on National Trails Highway, leading to a temporary closure in both directions.
County employees were also present to assess the road markings and collaborate in accident investigation efforts. The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation of the tragic accident in Oro Grande and will provide additional information as it becomes available.
