Bakersfield, California – In the southeast of Bakersfield, a fatal accident has claimed the life of a 50-year-old man who became the victim of a tragic multiple pedestrian hit-and-run, as reported by the California Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred on September 18, 2023, at around 6:07 a.m., when authorities received multiple reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of South Union Avenue and Garden Drive.
The man, a Bakersfield resident, was walking eastward, crossing South Union Avenue outside of a pedestrian crosswalk at that fateful moment. The driver of a Toyota, sadly, could not avoid the collision and struck the pedestrian.
The driver, aware of the seriousness of the situation, immediately pulled over on the right shoulder of the road while the man lay in lane #1.
However, the tragedy did not end there. Shortly afterward, an unknown vehicle described as a dark sedan was traveling south on South Union Avenue, also in lane #1. In a series of unfortunate events, the driver of the sedan also struck the man and, without stopping, fled the scene, leaving behind an even more heart-wrenching scene.
Tragically, the man could not survive the injuries sustained and was pronounced dead at the scene.
As for the possible causes of this unfortunate incident, there were no indications of alcohol or drug involvement in the first collision. However, in the second collision, circumstances regarding alcohol and drug consumption remain unknown.
At this time, the California Highway Patrol is conducting a thorough investigation. So far, only one driver has cooperated with authorities, while the driver of the dark sedan remains at large.
