Long Beach, California — A tragic Long Beach hit-and-run crash has left a family grieving the loss of 78-year-old Nikki Rash. The incident occurred on December 26 at the intersection of San Antonio Drive and California Avenue. Authorities report that a tan Toyota Avalon ran a red light, colliding with Rash’s vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Nikki, a devoted volunteer at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, spent her final days at the same hospital where she had once comforted patients with therapy dogs. Her son, Chris Rash, described her deep commitment to the Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue and Paws 4 Healing, noting how much she gave to others during her lifetime.
Nikki’s rescue dog, Gabby, was brought to the hospital to say goodbye. Andrew Lesser, president of Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue, explained that Gabby had been distressed since the accident but appeared to find some closure after visiting Nikki.
