(Redlands, CA) An 11-year-old girl died in a tragic car and train collision as the vehicle she was in attempted to cross the tracks. Her mother is currently in the hospital fighting for her life.
The terrible accident occurred last Tuesday night in Redlands, a city 100km east of Los Angeles, and involved a Metrolink train and a car driven by an adult woman and her 11-year-old daughter.
Authorities report that the woman and her daughter were traveling in their car, heading north on Alabama Street when the vehicle ended up on the westbound train tracks. The train was traveling at about 80km/h when the conductor saw the car on the tracks and tried to break, but was unable to stop in time. Police reported that the girl was ejected from the vehicle upon impact and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Redlands Fire Department paramedics quickly arrived at the scene to assist the victims, treating the mother of the child and transporting her to the hospital in critical condition. As for the only passengers on the train, the conductor and an assistant, both were unharmed, but one reported complaints of pain and was transported to the hospital.
