Fatal San Bernardino DUI Crash Claims Pedestrian’s Life

Rialto, CA – A tragic San Bernardino DUI crash in Rialto on Sunday evening resulted in the death of a pedestrian and minor injuries to a child. The crash occurred around 6:26 p.m. at the intersection of Etiwanda and Riverside Avenues, where officers arrived to find a green Dodge Caravan that had veered onto the sidewalk, fatally striking a pedestrian who was walking his bike.

According to Rialto Police Department Sgt. Smith, the initial investigation indicates that the 32-year-old female driver of the Dodge Caravan was making a left turn from Riverside Avenue onto Etiwanda Avenue but failed to yield. A black Audi, traveling in the opposite direction, collided with the Caravan, causing the minivan to swerve onto the northeast sidewalk, where it struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, identified only as a 50-year-old man, was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Inside the Audi were a 19-year-old driver and his 2-year-old son. The child sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, while the father remained uninjured.

The driver of the Dodge Caravan was also hospitalized. Authorities plan to arrest her on charges of driving under the influence upon her release from the hospital.

The intersection was closed for several hours for investigation and cleanup, reopening early Monday morning.

This devastating San Bernardino DUI crash serves as a somber reminder of the dangers posed by impaired driving. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the deceased pedestrian, and we wish a swift recovery to the injured child. Families often face unexpected medical expenses, loss, and emotional distress in such incidents. Personal injury claims may provide some financial relief, helping families navigate the difficult road to recovery.
