Madera, California – Highway 99 in Madera County, California, remains partially closed following a fatal traffic accident that occurred on Thursday, July 25, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The fatal accident was reported shortly after noon in the northbound lanes of Highway 99 between Avenues 9 and 12. According to CHP, authorities and emergency personnel arrived quickly at the scene to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
The collision involved two semi-trucks. One of the trucks, which was transporting several vehicles, was parked on the right shoulder. It is believed that the driver was performing work on the trailer.
The second truck, which was carrying baby carrots, was traveling northbound in the right lane. According to CHP, this truck veered onto the right shoulder, colliding with the trailer of the first truck.
The impact resulted in fatal injuries to the driver of the parked truck, a man approximately 50 years old. The driver of the truck carrying baby carrots was uninjured in the accident.
Due to the accident, both northbound lanes of Highway 99 were affected. Although lane two remains closed, lane one is open for traffic.
