Fatal Accident in South Paradise Creek: DUI Suspected

Valley Center, California – A tragic accident in South Paradise Creek involving three vehicles occurred around 6 p.m. on Monday, just south of Harrah’s Casino in Valley Center. The collision on the Rincon Grade involved a red Toyota Tundra, a black Ford F-150, and a white Toyota Camry.

Authorities say a 19-year-old man from Valley Center was driving the Toyota Tundra southbound on Valley Center Road when, for reasons still under investigation, he veered into oncoming traffic. The Tundra collided head-on with the northbound Ford F-150, driven by a 72-year-old man, and the following Toyota Camry, driven by a 16-year-old.

Responders from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, and local fire and paramedics were dispatched to the scene. Despite their efforts, the 72-year-old Ford driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His 69-year-old female passenger sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The 16-year-old Camry driver and his 20-year-old female passenger suffered minor injuries and were also transported to a local hospital.

CHP officials report that evidence suggests alcohol was a contributing factor. The Toyota Tundra’s driver, Yusbel Eddy Pacheco, has been arrested and faces multiple serious charges, including felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. This case remains open, and anyone with information or footage is urged to contact the CHP Oceanside office at (760) 643-3400.
