Bakersfield, California – Thirteen-year-old Alejandro Vargas was tragically struck on Niles Street in Bakersfield on June 30, 2019. This event not only devastated his family but also sparked a quest for justice and transformed the community of Bakersfield.
Five years after his passing, Alejandro has left a legacy of solidarity, love, and strength. His story has inspired friends and family to commemorate his memory through events and activities supporting the community.
This year is no different, and Farahi Law Firm is pleased to announce our collaboration with Alejandro’s family to contribute to our society and make one of Alejandro’s dreams a reality.
On Sunday, June 30th, Alejandro’s family will honor his memory by providing meals for 250 residents of the Bakersfield Homeless Center.
“After four years, seeing this become a reality fills me with blessings in his memory. He’s making this happen,” shared an emotional Josie Rosel, Alejandro’s mother.
Remembering how Alejandro always sought to help those in need, his sister Giselle Vargas mentioned that Alejandro would have been thrilled about this event, as he loved dedicating himself to helping others.
This is not the first event in his honor; to commemorate what would have been his sixteenth birthday, Josie Rosel organized an event at Beach Park in 2022 to feed families and the homeless, something he was passionate about. Following the event, Josie donated the surplus to a local shelter and vowed to feed the entire shelter in memory of her son.
“He would always say, ‘Mom, give that person on the corner a dollar.’ I would say I couldn’t, that we barely had money,” Josie recalls. “But he would insist, ‘Mom, please,’ and he always managed to convince me.“
Alejandro Vargas was a cheerful, honest, and kind-hearted boy whose spirit was always eager to support others. His loss has been a painful experience for our community in Bakersfield, but we are determined to carry on his legacy and honor his name.
The event will take place this Saturday (June 30th) at 5 p.m. at the Bakersfield Homeless Center. Everyone is warmly invited to participate.
