Fresno County, California — Thick fog contributed to a series of collisions across Fresno County on Tuesday morning, including a deadly crash near Selma, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The fatal accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Parlier and McCall avenues. Investigators reported that a pickup truck driver pulled out from a stop sign on Parlier Avenue, crossing into the path of an oncoming big rig. The semi-truck struck the pickup’s front end, dragging it approximately 100 feet before stopping. The pickup caught fire, and its driver was ejected, succumbing to his injuries at the scene.
A passerby rescued a woman from the burning vehicle’s passenger seat. She was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries. The semi-truck driver was unharmed.
CHP officials believe dense fog and limited visibility were significant factors in the crash. Officer Mike Salas noted visibility was reduced to about 100 feet.
Authorities also responded to a separate incident involving multiple vehicles at McCall and American avenues earlier that morning. Both crashes emphasize the dangers of driving in foggy conditions.
Drivers are reminded to reduce speed, maintain safe distances, and use headlights to enhance visibility during adverse weather. If necessary, travel should be postponed to ensure safety. Our thoughts are with those affected by these tragic events.
