In the afternoon on Wednesday, a concerning accident occurred on northbound Highway 101 near Healdsburg, resulting in five people being hospitalized due to a chain of collisions.
The incident began around 6 p.m. with a collision in the southbound lanes, according to reports from the California Highway Patrol. Northbound drivers slowed down to observe what was happening in the opposite lanes, leading to a rear-end collision in the northbound lanes.
All the victims involved in this serious accident were traveling in a red vehicle that was completely destroyed. At least one of them had to be airlifted from the scene due to the severity of their injuries.
After the initial collision, a second collision occurred, and it is not yet clear if there were any injuries. Then, a third collision took place, involving the victims traveling in the northbound lanes. Finally, a fourth collision occurred in the sequence of events.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the three vehicles involved in these collisions were a Chevrolet Tahoe, a Nissan Rogue, and a pickup truck.
Three of the victims suffered serious injuries, and at least one of them might have been unconscious when authorities arrived at the scene.
As a result of the chain of collisions on Highway 101, both northbound lanes were blocked for approximately 90 minutes at Dry Creek Road. However, the right lane was reopened just after 7:30 p.m. Northbound traffic was diverted onto Dry Creek Road, and during the entire incident, it backed up to just north of the Healdsburg Avenue off-ramp, according to information provided by Caltrans.
It is essential to exercise caution while driving and remain alert on the road to avoid accidents of this kind. Road safety is the responsibility of everyone, and mindful driving can prevent tragedies on highways.
