Contra Costa County, California – In a tragic incident, a Bay Point resident lost his life on Sunday, January 21, 2024, when he failed to navigate a curve on a wet road north of Highway 4, near Martinez.
According to a report from the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office, the victim was identified as 30-year-old Jonathan Ojeda.
The unfortunate incident took place around 11 a.m. as Ojeda was driving near the intersection of Franklin Canyon Road and Wolcott Lane. He was operating a Can-Am utility vehicle, similar to an ATV, which veered off the road and collided with a metal mesh fence.
Initial reports suggested that the vehicle had overturned. Unfortunately, Ojeda was pronounced dead at the scene, while the two passengers on board escaped unharmed.
Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the wet road accident near Martinez. According to the California Highway Patrol, it was discovered that Ojeda was not wearing his seatbelt correctly at the time of impact.
