Petaluma, California – A shocking tragedy occurred on U.S. Highway 101 in Petaluma last Monday afternoon when a 90-year-old woman lost her life in a car accident. The incident has shaken the local community, leaving authorities investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
Emergency teams, including the California Highway Patrol and Petaluma Fire personnel, swiftly responded to a call reporting a significant collision. The incident took place around 4:42 p.m. on the northbound lanes of Highway 101, just south of East Washington Street.
The California Highway Patrol’s investigation revealed that a Honda CR-V, operated by a Cotati resident, was traveling north on the 101, closely following a Range Rover. The Range Rover, due to stopped traffic, was moving at a reduced speed.
Tragically, the Honda, traveling at an unsafe speed for the traffic conditions, violently collided with the rear of the Range Rover. The Honda driver, after the impact, was urgently transported to the hospital with severe injuries.
Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, the woman did not recover and succumbed to her injuries, as confirmed by the California Highway Patrol.
On the other hand, the Range Rover driver, a 48-year-old Petaluma native, was also taken to the hospital. Fortunately, his injuries were categorized as mild to moderate, providing a glimmer of relief amidst this tragedy.
Out of respect for privacy and until the family is appropriately notified, authorities have chosen to withhold the identity of the deceased woman. This measure aims to allow loved ones to process the tragic loss before it becomes public knowledge.
