Teen Paralyzed in Police Chase Crash in Rancho Cucamonga

Rancho Cucamonga, CA – A 15-year-old boy, Aadan Portillo, was tragically paralyzed from the chest down after a violent police chase crash in Rancho Cucamonga earlier this month. The incident occurred on October 5, when Aadan and his friends were in an Uber, headed to grab food at In-N-Out Burger. The ride-share vehicle was struck by a white Nissan Altima, which was fleeing from police at high speed.

The suspect, who was wanted for a possible DUI, ran a red light at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Etiwanda Avenue, slamming into the side of the Uber. Aadan, seated in the rear passenger seat, bore the brunt of the impact. While his friends escaped with minor injuries, Aadan was rushed to the hospital with severe trauma.

The crash footage shows the devastating damage to both vehicles as first responders worked to stabilize Aadan and transport him for emergency surgery. During an eight-hour procedure, doctors removed his fifth cervical vertebra and replaced it with a spacer to stabilize his neck.

Despite the life-altering injuries, Aadan’s family remains optimistic. “He’s just strong and positive,” said his mother, Veronica Portillo. Aadan, who previously loved basketball and music, has since moved to a specialized care facility to continue his recovery.

The suspect involved in this possible DUI accident was arrested at the scene, though details of his injuries remain unclear. The Portillo family is now focused on supporting Aadan through his recovery, with faith that he will overcome this challenge.

This heartbreaking incident is a reminder of the severe consequences of reckless actions on innocent lives. Aadan’s story reflects the resilience of a young man facing overwhelming challenges and the strength of a family united in their hope for his recovery.

Our thoughts are with Aadan and his family as they navigate this difficult journey. If you would like to support them, a GoFundMe has been set up to assist with Aadan’s ongoing medical expenses.
