San Francisco, California — A fatal single-vehicle crash on Christmas Day near Golden Gate Park resulted in one death after the vehicle caught fire, authorities reported.
The crash occurred on Wednesday around 4 p.m. near Crossover Drive and Park Presidio Bypass junction. When officers and firefighters arrived at the scene, the vehicle was already engulfed in flames.
Firefighters successfully extinguished the flames. However, the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was found deceased inside, according to San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Robert Rueca.
After the crash, southbound lanes on 19th Avenue between Park Presidio Boulevard and Crossover Drive were temporarily closed to traffic. Authorities continue their investigation and urge anyone with information to contact the police at 415-575-4444 or text tips to TIP411.
