Hesperia, California – A serious rollover accident on I-15 involved two vehicles on northbound Interstate 15, resulting in one man being airlifted to the hospital with severe injuries early Saturday morning. The incident occurred approximately 12:22 a.m. on August 24, 2024, roughly a mile and a half before the Bear Valley Road exit.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the crash, which involved a white Pontiac G6 sedan and a silver Nissan Rogue SUV.
According to initial reports, the Pontiac was traveling in the #2 lane, while the Nissan was in the #1 lane on I-15 northbound, just past Main Street in Hesperia.
For reasons yet to be determined, the Pontiac driver attempted an unsafe lane change, colliding with the Nissan Rogue. The impact sent both vehicles into the center divider, causing both drivers to lose control. The Pontiac overturned but eventually landed upright in the traffic lanes, whereas the Nissan Rogue veered off to the right shoulder, struck a concrete ditch, and ended up on its roof.
Emergency responders found that the driver of the Pontiac, the only occupant in that vehicle, had been ejected from the car. He was conscious and breathing but suffered severe injuries. He was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center by Mercy Air #22 helicopter. The specific nature of his injuries remains unknown at this time.
Two individuals in the Nissan Rogue did not report any injuries. The collision prompted CHP officers to temporarily shut down the northbound lanes to facilitate the landing of the medical helicopter and conduct an investigation. Additionally, the crash led to the discovery of a stolen vehicle, which is also under investigation.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances leading up to the crash. Once the CHP releases its preliminary accident report, more information will be provided.
