Casey Rivera, a father from California, tragically lost his life on Friday afternoon when he was struck by a teenage driver. The 41-year-old man had exited his vehicle to help a duck family cross the street.
Showing his kindness and compassion, Rivera stopped his car at the intersection of Park Drive and Standford Ranch Boulevard in Rocklin to aid a mother duck and her ducklings in safely crossing the road. Applauding and encouraging him from their vehicles, other drivers and Rivera’s two children, who remained in the car, witnessed the selfless act.
Unfortunately, moments after assisting the duck family, Rivera was fatally struck by a 17-year-old driver, leaving his children to witness the devastating scene.
Following the incident, the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the accident investigation. A spokesperson from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office stated that the unidentified driver might not face charges for Rivera’s death.
The final act of kindness performed by Rivera was captured on video by 12-year-old William Wimsat, a passenger in another vehicle. Wimsat mentioned that Rivera had stepped out of his car to assist the ducks, with onlookers applauding his gesture.
“I remember everyone appreciating his kindness and good deed when, seconds later, the sound of the impact changed everything. I saw his body flying, and his shoe was left in front of our car. My mom went out to console her kids,” the child shared with the media.
Upon hearing the heartbreaking news, many individuals expressed their opinions about the deceased, describing him as a good, kind, and honorable man while mourning his tragic death. Casey Rivera’s aunt created a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for his widow. To date, over $75,000 has been raised in Rivera’s honor, accompanied by messages of love and respect for the late father.
