Pasadena, California — A devastating wrong-way crash on the 134 Freeway in Pasadena claimed the lives of two individuals and left three others hospitalized on Sunday morning, according to authorities. The multi-vehicle collision, involving four cars, occurred around 8:10 a.m. on the westbound freeway near North San Rafael Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident began when a vehicle entered the freeway from the San Rafael Avenue off-ramp, traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. Among the vehicles involved were a white sedan, a silver minivan, and two unidentified vehicles, one of which ignited into flames.
Lisa Derderian, the Pasadena Fire Department spokeswoman, confirmed that emergency responders arrived at the scene within minutes. Tragically, two individuals lost their lives, including 31-year-old William Yost, identified by the Medical Examiner’s office. Three others sustained injuries and were transported to a nearby trauma center for urgent care.
The collision caused significant disruptions, including traffic delays on the Colorado Street Bridge. A Sigalert closed the westbound freeway at Orange Grove Boulevard for several hours.
