Two Dead and One Arrested for DUI in Highway 101 Accident

Ventura, California – A tragic accident on Highway 101 near Vista Del Mar Drive in Ventura County claimed the lives of two men from Santa Barbara, aged 52 and 55, in a head-on collision around 2:26 a.m. on June 8, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The accident occurred when a 21-year-old driver, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was driving his Volkswagen the wrong way in the northbound lanes of Highway 101. The suspect’s vehicle violently collided with a Nissan Versa, causing the instant death of the two occupants in the Nissan.

Paramedics arrived quickly at the scene and confirmed that both men had died instantly. 

Additionally, the 21-year-old Oxnard resident was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The young driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence, causing injury.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the accident. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is asking for the cooperation of any witnesses who may have information about the incident.
