Watsonville, California — A fatal collision early Tuesday morning claimed the life of a 53-year-old woman from Royal Oaks, southeast of Watsonville. Authorities have not released her identity pending notification of her family.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Green Valley Road and Pinto Lake Road. A 35-year-old man from Freedom was driving a gray 2006 Toyota Camry southbound on Green Valley Road when he struck the woman, who was walking in the area.
Emergency responders arrived promptly and attempted lifesaving measures, but the pedestrian sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are examining the circumstances leading to the collision. According to a CHP statement, there is currently no evidence that drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident. The driver was not arrested.
