Traffic Accident on I-80 in El Cerrito Involving Two Large Trucks

In the early hours of Tuesday, a traffic accident occurred on westbound I-80 in El Cerrito involving two large trucks. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that this incident blocked several lanes for hours.

According to authorities, around 1:30 a.m., two large trucks collided east of the Potrero Avenue exit and became entangled. This collision has been the main cause of the delay in clearing the scene.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the sugar truck rear-ended the carnival equipment truck. As a result, a large amount of sugar spilled onto the highway. Officer Adib Zeid, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol, provided this information.

As of 6 a.m., three westbound lanes remained closed, causing traffic congestion towards the Bay Bridge. The CHP reported that one person involved in the accident was airlifted to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek due to severe injuries.

An hour after the accident, the leftmost lane of westbound I-80 was reopened, followed by the reopening of the adjacent lane around 10 a.m., according to authorities.

The CHP reported a sugar leak from one of the truck containers, which complicated the cleanup efforts. The right lanes remained blocked until 11:30 a.m. Finally, all lanes were reopened, and the scene was completely cleared by 12:35 p.m.

This traffic accident on I-80 in El Cerrito highlights the dangers of the road and the importance of cautious driving. It is the responsibility of all drivers to stay alert behind the wheel and follow traffic rules to avoid catastrophic accidents.
