On Monday, a San Jose CHP officer became the victim of an unfortunate crash that occurred on northbound Interstate 280 near Saratoga Avenue. As they were investigating a single-vehicle collision, another vehicle suddenly lost control and collided with the officer’s patrol car, leaving them injured in its wake. The incident was later confirmed by the San Jose CHP office via their Instagram post.
According to the post, a CHP officer had pulled over and parked on the road’s shoulder following their response to an auto accident. At that point, they were awaiting help from a tow truck while seated in their patrol car with the driver of the crashed vehicle. Then, at approximately 1 p.m., a silver Ford Focus traveling northbound lost control due to rain conditions and careened across lanes before smashing into the very same CHP vehicle.
In the aftermath of the San Jose car accident, both the officer and passenger in the patrol car were brought to a medical center due to complaints of pain.
The San Jose CHP is urging drivers to drive cautiously during periods of bad weather to avoid hazardous circumstances like this one.
