On April 5, 2023 a horrific crash occurred on Calvine Rd and Franklin Blvd in Sacramento, California involving a KIA Optima and a Chevrolet Silverado, leaving two dead and several severely injured.
Our client, Pablo Tomas-Hernandez and his brothers, Onelio and Agusto, were traveling southbound on Franklin Boulevard in their Chevrolet Silverado pick up. Tomas-Hernandez made an eastbound left turn when the traffic light had turned green.
Meanwhile, traveling northbound in the Kia Optima sedan was the defendant, who was driving, and three passengers. According to police reports, earlier that day, the defendant’s vehicle was reported stolen.
Officers from the Elk Grove Police Department were dispatched and followed the defendant’s car down Franklin Boulevard. Upon seeing the police vehicles, the defendant ran the red light at high speeds and crashed into our client’s pick up truck.
The defendant and fellow passenger later succumbed to their injuries.
Our clients Pablo, Onelio and Agusto, sustained significant injuries and were rushed to Mercy San Juan Hospital and Kaiser South Hospital, where they underwent various operations. Pablo experienced loss of consciousness and neck pain. Onelio sustained a head fracture and brain bleeding, requiring the removal of a part of his skull. Agusto sustained two broken shoulders, a brain injury and a ruptured spleen which required removal. Both Onelio and Agusto were ejected from the vehicle at the moment of impact.
All three were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
