Orinda, California – A terrifying incident shook Orinda, California, when a fleeing driver collided head-on with another vehicle on Highway 24, leaving both drivers with severe injuries.
The pursuit in Orinda, which began on Highway 242, turned into a dangerous chase that culminated in a tragic collision between the suspect identified as Jesus Valdez, 35, and another innocent driver.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office reported that the pursuit was triggered when officers spotted a stolen vehicle around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. After an attempt to stop it, the pursuit continued onto Interstate 680 and Highway 24.
Moments later, the suspect, purportedly Jesus Valdez, fled on foot for a brief period before returning to the stolen car and recklessly speeding in the wrong direction on Highway 24.
The shocking crash occurred between Hidden Valley Road and St. Stephens Drive in Orinda around 7 p.m., as confirmed by California Highway Patrol spokesman Adam Lane. Both drivers sustained severe injuries and were immediately transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
The fleeing driver, Jesus Valdez, was arrested at the scene on multiple charges, including alleged possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless evasion, and evading police resulting in severe injuries. Additionally, he was found to have an outstanding warrant related to drug trafficking, further complicating his legal situation.
