A 24-year-old man is facing multiple charges after an eventful morning in Orange, California. On Monday at 5 a.m., police noticed the driver of a Hyundai Sonata driving without headlights on South Parker Street and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect – identified as Raymond Salazar Felix – fled from the scene eastbound on Chapman Avenue.
Surveillance video shows Felix then accelerating into Plaza Park roundabout before colliding with its famous fountain and flipping his car several times until it came to rest near the other side of the plaza.
Upon further investigation, officers determined that Felix had stolen the vehicle prior to fleeing, was in possession of a ghost gun plus an illegal high-capacity magazine, and was already on probation for vehicle theft out of Kern County.
The crash caused significant damage to the beloved Plaza Park fountain, a historic landmark in the city of Orange that dates back to the late 1800s. The fountain was designed by World War I soldier and local architect Edgar Joralemon.
Felix was rushed to the hospital due to extensive injuries and is expected to be transferred for booking at Orange County Jail.
