The California Highway Patrol reported a tragic collision involving five vehicles. The fateful incident took place on Interstate 10 in Fontana in the early hours of Tuesday, August 8th, resulting in the death of one person and multiple injuries.
Around 3:03 a.m., a 28-year-old resident of Pomona was driving a 2010 Honda Civic westbound on I-10, near Cypress Avenue, in the center lanes. For reasons still unknown, the Civic began to lose control, veering to the left and colliding with the central divider wall. This impact caused the vehicle to come to a stop in the westbound traffic lanes.
Meanwhile, a 23-year-old woman from Los Angeles was driving a 2006 Honda Accord in the No. 2 lane westbound. As she approached the immobilized Civic, she couldn’t avoid crashing into the right side of the vehicle. This collision set off a chain reaction, resulting in multiple vehicles colliding with the Civic.
Amidst this sequence of impacts, the driver of the Honda Civic suffered fatal injuries and tragically lost her life at the accident scene. Unfortunately, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, according to CHP reports.
On the other hand, the driver of a Toyota Rav4, a 55-year-old resident of Colton, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Kaiser Hospital in Fontana for medical treatment. Fortunately, none of the other individuals involved were seriously injured.
Although investigations are ongoing, authorities have not ruled out the possibility of alcohol being a factor in the tragic collision, as reported by the California Highway Patrol.
