Understanding Liability After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in California
A multi-vehicle crash in Fresno County can raise complex questions about liability, especially when multiple drivers and vehicles are involved.
California follows a comparative fault system, meaning responsibility may be divided among multiple parties based on their actions.
Families affected by serious collisions should understand several legal considerations:
- Determining fault: Traffic violations, witness statements, and crash evidence may help establish liability.
- Personal injury claims: Injured individuals may seek compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering.
- Wrongful death claims: Eligible surviving family members may pursue compensation when negligence causes a fatality.
- Filing deadlines: California generally allows two years to file personal injury or wrongful death lawsuits, subject to exceptions.
