Fresno DUI Crash Ends Near Highway 180 and Abby Street

Fresno police began receiving reports of a reckless driver in the Tower District at about 6 p.m. Saturday, August 29.

Witnesses later told officers the vehicle had struck other cars before leaving the area. With assistance from a police helicopter, officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop.

The driver continued west on Highway 180 before crashing near the Abby Street off-ramp. Officers found a 32-year-old woman and her two children inside the vehicle. Police said both children sustained minor injuries.

The woman was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. Authorities said the investigation into the Fresno DUI accident remained ongoing following the crash.

How California Law May Apply After a DUI Injury Crash

A suspected DUI crash can involve both criminal proceedings and separate civil injury claims.

California Vehicle Code Section 23153 addresses driving under the influence when an unlawful act or neglected driving duty causes bodily injury to another person. A criminal case does not automatically compensate injured victims, so a separate insurance claim or civil action may still be necessary.

For families affected by a DUI accident, important claim issues may include:

  • Medical expenses and future treatment needs
  • Pain, suffering, and emotional distress
  • Lost income or other financial losses
  • Evidence such as police reports, witness statements, photographs, and insurance records

Liability and available compensation depend on the specific facts and evidence in each case. California law recognizes both economic and noneconomic damages in qualifying injury claims.

A serious collision can leave families facing medical bills, insurance issues, and financial uncertainty. Preserving evidence and reviewing available coverage can help clarify a potential injury claim.

A Fresno personal injury lawyer can investigate collisions, review records, identify responsible parties, and explain compensation options. If you or a loved one was injured in a DUI accident, contact us for a free consultation to explore your legal options.
