Bakersfield, California ā A fatal crash in Kernville left one person dead and another seriously injured Saturday afternoon after a pickup truck left Sierra Way and overturned. Authorities are investigating whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the single-vehicle collision.
Fatal Kernville Crash Reported on Sierra Way
CHP officers responded at about 1:11 p.m. on September 19 to Sierra Way, north of James Road, after receiving reports of a Ford pickup crash. Investigators said a 38-year-old Onyx man was driving a blue 2019 Ford Super Duty northbound at an unknown speed when the vehicle left the roadway for reasons still under investigation.
The pickup struck the ascending canyon wall on the east side of the road and rolled several times. CHP reported that the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger seated in the right-front position suffered major injuries and was transported for treatment. Investigators said drugs and/or alcohol appear to have been a factor.
