Family Hospitalized After Being Hit by DUI Driver

Garden Grove, California – A hit-and-run accident caused by a DUI driver has left a 5-year-old child in critical condition and several family members hospitalized with serious injuries.

The tragic incident occurred on the night of Sunday, July 7, when parents riding bicycles with their three children in trailers were struck near Haster Street and Twintree Lane shortly after 7:30 p.m. A key witness followed the involved vehicle and helped police apprehend the suspect.

All five family members, including a 27-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, were transported to the hospital. Three of them, two children and their father, are in critical condition.

Angela HernƔndez, the mother of the children, was also struck but sustained less severe injuries, allowing her to visit her husband and children in different hospitals across Orange County.

I fainted,” recalled HernĆ”ndez. “I only remember a car hitting us. Something hit me, and I immediately got up. I felt a rush and tried to lift my children and my husband. I didn’t see my son move; he didn’t respond.” HernĆ”ndez is especially worried about her 5-year-old son, Jacob RamĆrez, who has already undergone two surgeries due to the severity of his injuries.

Jacob Ramƭrez is fighting for his life with a severely swollen brain and is unresponsive to stimuli. Her 8-month-old daughter, Lydia, is in stable condition, while her 6-year-old daughter, Gianna, and her husband, Ɓngel Ramƭrez, are in critical condition.

Authorities identified the driver as 29-year-old Ceferino Ramos, a resident of Santa Ana, who was arrested on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run. The police investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the authorities.
