Elk Grove DUI Crash Causes Death and Serious Injury

Sacramento County, California — A suspected Elk Grove DUI crash left one person dead and another injured after two vehicles collided on Elk Grove Boulevard. The nighttime collision also forced temporary road closures as investigators examined the scene.

Fatal Collision Reported on Elk Grove Boulevard

Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision reported at about 9:15 p.m. on Elk Grove Boulevard.

According to the Elk Grove Police Department, a westbound vehicle struck the center median, became airborne, and crossed into the eastbound lanes. It then collided with another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

Each vehicle had one occupant. One person died, while the other sustained injuries. Investigators said alcohol appeared to be a contributing factor, although the circumstances remained under review.

The Elk Grove DUI crash also led authorities to close both directions of Elk Grove Boulevard between Waterfowl Drive and East Taron Drive for approximately one to two hours while officers examined the scene.

How a Suspected DUI May Affect an Injury Claim

A suspected impaired-driving collision may result in criminal proceedings and separate civil claims.

California Vehicle Code Section 23152 prohibits driving under the influence or with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher. A civil claim still requires evidence that the driver’s actions caused the injuries or death.

Potentially important evidence may include:

  • Police reports and chemical test results
  • Traffic-camera or nearby surveillance footage
  • Vehicle damage and collision reconstruction findings
  • Medical records, wage-loss documents, and witness accounts

An injured person may seek compensation for medical expenses, lost income, pain, and related losses. Eligible surviving relatives may also pursue a wrongful death claim.
