Los Angeles County, California — A big rig crash on the 210 Freeway in Irwindale resulted in a fatality and injuries to dozens of motorists, according to authorities. The collision caused major traffic disruptions and remains under investigation as officials work to determine the factors that led to the incident.
Deadly Collision Shuts Down 210 Freeway Near Irwindale
The big-rig crash on the 210 Freeway occurred Saturday on the eastbound side near Interstate 605 in Irwindale. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a 2016 Freightliner Cascadia was traveling eastbound when it reportedly made an unsafe movement toward the center median.
Investigators reported that the truck entered the divider area, crossed into the opposing lanes, and jackknifed across westbound traffic. A 2015 Ford Transit in the westbound HOV lane could not avoid the truck and collided with it. A second Ford Transit behind the first vehicle also struck the trailer, and a Honda Prologue later collided with debris from the crash.
One woman driving a Ford Transit was killed. Two passengers in the vehicle sustained major injuries. Authorities reported that 32 people were injured overall, including eight transported to local hospitals. The crash led to lengthy lane closures in both directions as emergency crews cleared the scene.
CHP continues to investigate the cause, and officials do not currently suspect drugs or alcohol.
When a Commercial Truck Crash Leads to Injury Claims
Serious commercial truck collisions often raise complex legal and insurance issues. In California, injured victims may have the right to pursue compensation if negligence contributed to a crash.
Potential factors that may be examined include:
- Driver actions leading up to the collision
- Compliance with federal and state trucking regulations
- Vehicle inspection and maintenance records
- Roadway and traffic conditions
- Witness statements and physical evidence
- Employer or trucking company involvement
Because truck accident investigations often involve multiple parties and extensive evidence, preserving records and obtaining documentation early can be important following a commercial vehicle collision.
