New Year’s Day Crash in Mission Viejo Results in Fatality

Mission Viejo, California — A tragic crash on New Year’s Day in Mission Viejo claimed the life of a 66-year-old woman from San Juan Capistrano. The accident involved a wrong-way driver at around 1:30 a.m. on Marguerite Parkway near Pueblonuevo Drive.

Authorities report that the driver of a Chevy Malibu was traveling south in the northbound lanes when it collided head-on with a Toyota Camry. The 66-year-old Camry driver was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Malibu, a 26-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries and then booked into jail.
