Monterey County Teenagers Cause Highway 101 Crash After SUV Theft in Salinas [Monterey County, CA]

Monterey County, California – A group of Monterey County teenagers stole an SUV, evaded law enforcement, and drove the wrong way on Highway 101 in Salinas, causing a significant Highway 101 crash on Tuesday night, as reported by the police.

In a statement on their Facebook page on Wednesday, the Greenfield Police Department (GPD) urged the younger members of the community to carefully consider their actions and reminded them that the laws of physics do not discriminate by age.

According to the GPD, the incident began when the group of teenagers took a Kia SUV in Greenfield, on Oak Avenue. Despite exhaustive search efforts, the vehicle managed to evade the authorities.

Later that night, the stolen Kia was spotted first on the Monterey Peninsula and then in Salinas. Unfortunately, the teenagers drove the vehicle in the wrong direction on Highway 101, resulting in a head-on collision, leaving all occupants of the Kia and the other vehicle with serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.

In a call for solidarity, the Greenfield Police Department asked the community to extend their thoughts and prayers to all those affected by the tragic event. It was also reported that emotional support is being provided to students at local schools, with the hope of preventing future tragedies and encouraging responsible decision-making among young people.
