Juice Spill After Multi-Car Crash in Fresno Blocks Highway 99

Fresno, California — A multi-car crash in Fresno early Friday caused a semi-truck to overturn and spill thousands of pounds of juice across Highway 99. Several people were injured, and major traffic delays followed as crews worked to clear the scene.

What Happened on Highway 99?

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 2:45 a.m. on northbound Highway 99 near Herndon Avenue. A semi-truck carrying 70,000 pounds of juice lost control and hit an embankment, overturning and blocking two lanes.

Another semi-truck swerved to avoid the overturned vehicle and was rear-ended by a Ford F-250. The driver of the first semi-truck was hospitalized with an arm injury, while the other two drivers sustained minor injuries.

All lanes were initially closed, with only one reopening hours later. Authorities estimated it would take three more hours to clear the road fully.

Why Multi-Car Crashes Involving Trucks Are Legally Complex

Incidents involving commercial trucks—like this multi-car crash in Fresno—often involve multiple layers of legal responsibility and public safety concerns. Understanding these factors is crucial for anyone affected by such collisions.

Key considerations include:

  • Shared liability: Multiple parties, including drivers and trucking companies, may be held responsible.
  • Regulation violations: Safety breaches can affect legal outcomes.
  • Cargo risks: Spills from large shipments complicate cleanup and safety.
  • Insurance disputes: Commercial policies often involve aggressive defense.
  • Dangerous routes: Over 5,000 fatal truck crashes occurred in 2022, many on major corridors like Highway 99.
