Five people were hospitalized after a fiery crash and police pursuit in Danville that occurred early Saturday morning.
The incident took place just after 1 a.m. when a Danville police officer attempted to stop a vehicle at the intersection of Diablo Road and El Cerro Boulevard for running a red light.
The vehicle fled eastbound on Diablo Road and reached Blackhawk Road. Approximately five miles away, at the intersection with Camino Tassajara Road, it ran another red light and collided with another driver. The fleeing vehicle overturned and caught fire.
Five occupants were rescued and taken to a hospital. The driver suffered serious injuries. Authorities added that the two individuals in the second vehicle were not injured.
The intersection of Camino Tassajara and Crow Canyon Road was closed on Saturday morning while the investigation took place but has since been reopened.
As of Sunday afternoon, no further updates have been reported regarding the fiery crash and police pursuit in Danville or the condition of the hospitalized individuals.
